THE POSSESSED
THE POSSESSED
By A. Camus, theatrical adaptation of F. Dostoyevsky's novel “The Possessed”, later renamed “Demons”
“THE POSSESSED” is the human attempt to shout the truth boldly on the face of the earth, to change the course of time, to destroy the established norms, to set new rules, to erase the extraneous words and write words of their own, to conquer their own weakness by owning their strength and the power to use it wisely. “THE POSSESSED” is the human attempt to forgive themselves in the silence of their souls, the human attempt to write their own destiny, to tame loneliness and destruction in their actions and conscience, to make a choice what to believe and whom to love in order to resist the icy wind of the hearts and minds. All of the above - at the cost of being human, staying human.
The well-known Dostoyevsky and Camus’ characters find themselves in the dynamic and transcendental realm of the performance, where they fiercely seek for their place in an alien and aggressive world, full of demands, proclamation, and alienation.
“Then went the devils up out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. And when they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told this in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid." /form The Gospel of St. Luke, Chapter VIII, verses 32 to 36.
